2016-10-12 Adoration Prayer

Dear LORD,

Thank You for today. Thank You for others helping at work today so we could make progress on a stymied administrative issue. Thank You for the nurses today who helped me at cardiac rehab. Thank You for them doing their duty and having patience with me, their patient, particularly Isabelle.

Please bless the Adorers who adore You, particularly those who have birthdays this month or TODAY! AHA! Please You I pray for the doctors being pressured into defending the right to life, particularly those who are asked to perform abortions, that scourge! Please watch over James' grandma. Please watch over those on twitter, and please guide those who have lost their way to look up and to find You, their Way. Please watch over Jane as she does her duties in caring for others and please heal her knee. Please preserve us all from the fires of hell and lead us home to You.

I ask all this in the Name of Jesus.

Amen

Prayers of Thanksgiving

Dear LORD,

THANK YOU for today, and for miraculously making the many things come together as they did.

I pray for my boss, Catherine Thomas, as she pulls together my itinerary for the Graph Connect in San Francisco next week. I pray for my boss, Venkata, as he works through all the issues to deliver our Gov't customer an useful and helpful product for them. I pray for my family, working so hard to be so active in the community: striving to make St. Michael Youth Group work, Madam's ballet, speech and debate, Atrium/Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Carpenter's Shelter/soup kitchen. Diane, Elena Marie, and Isabel do so much, every day, giving themselves so freely. Please help me see this in them and love them more and better...

LOVE THEM MORE BETTER! AHA!

I pray for all my tweeps, adding my prayers to theirs as I pray for their special intentions.

I ask all these things in the Name of Jesus.

AMEN and AMEN!!

Memorare to St. Joseph

Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any who implored your help and sought your intercession were left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power, I fly unto you, and beg your protection. Despise not, O foster-father of the Redeemer, my humble supplication but in your bounty hear and answer me.

Amen

St. Joanne d'Arc, priez pour nous

"Every man gives his life for what he believes.
Every woman gives her life for what she believes.
Sometimes people believe in little or nothing,
and so they give their lives to little or nothing.

One life is all we have, and we life it as we believe in living it... and then it's gone. But to surrender who you are and to live without belief is more terrible than dying – even more terrible than dying young."

~ St. Joanne d'Arc

Prayer of St. John Vianney

I love You, O my God,
and my only desire is to love You
until the last breath of my life.

I love you, O my infinitely lovable God,
and I would rather die loving You,
than live without loving You.

I love You, Lord, and the only grace
I ask is to love You eternally ...

My God, if my tongue cannot say in every moment that I love You,
I want my heart to repeat it to You as often as I draw breath.

Amen.

St. Thomas More Prayer and Protection of Religious Freedom

Prayer of Saint Thomas More

Give me the grace, good Lord,
to set the world at naught;
to set my mind fast upon Thee
and not to hang upon the blast of men's mouths.

To be content to be solitary.
Not to long for worldly company
but utterly to cast off the world
and rid my mind the business thereof.

Not to long to hear of any worldly things,
But that the hearing of worldly phantasies may be to me displeasant.

Gladly to be thinking of God,
Piteously to call for His help,
To lean unto the comfort of God,
Busily to labor to love Him.

To know mine own vility and wretchedness,
To humble and meeken myself under the mighty hand of God,
To bewail my sins passed;
For the purging of them, patiently to suffer adversity.

Gladly to bear my purgatory here,
To be joyful of tribulations,
To walk the narrow way that leadeth to life.

To bear the cross with Christ,
To have the last thing – death– in remembrance,
To have ever afore mine eye my death, that is ever at hand;

To make death no stranger to me;
To foresee and consider the everlasting fire of hell;
To pray for pardon before the Judge come.

To have continually in mind the passion that Christ suffered for me;
For His benefits uncessantly to give Him thanks,
To but the time again that I before have lost.

To abstain from vain confabulations,
To eschew light foolish mirth and gladness;
Recreations not necessary, to cut off.

Of worldly substance, friends, liberty, life and all – to set the loss at nought
for the winning of Christ.

To think my most enemies my best friends,
For the brethren of Joseph could never have done him so much good
with their love and favor as they did him with their
malice and hatred.

Amen.

Saint Thomas More, pray for us.

Prayer for Protection of Religious Freedom

O God, our Creator,

from you provident hand we have received
our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You have called us as Your people and given us
the right and the duty to worship You, the only true God,
and Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the power and working of Your Holy Spirit,
You call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel
to every corner of society.

We ask You to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of Your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome –
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us –
with great land will always be "one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

Your Love, Your Love, is all that really matters

Dear LORD,

I pray for my friends tonight and their intentions. I pray particularly for Paisley Hays, and that the Infant Viability Bill passes in Australia, and I pray for her and for her parish priest, currently on sabbatical. I pray for Nora Sailor's children, that they be filled with Your Holy Spirit to overflowing. I pray for Phil and for a surly Peach, that they be good and holy parents to their children and that they draw closer to you. I pray for Phil that he resist temptation like St. Padre Pio and St. John Vianney. I pray for Paul Grandi, Judy Riggs, and Rachel Lamb. I pray for all those today who need You, but don't know to ask or don't have the strength to ask. I pray for my family this Memorial Day weekend as they pray for me as I run my first marathon. Please comfort them, those silly geese!

I pray in thanksgiving for all the blessing You have rained down on me: my family and friends, my work, my good health, food on the table, a roof above my head. The very, very simple things that so many do not have today, and that so many others take for granted, not for gifted.

And Love. Your Love is never-ending. Please, LORD, be with those who need You most today.

I pray all this in the Name of Jesus, the Christ.

Amen.

Sin

There is a comfort in my sins
They know me, and I know them.
And know where I'm going with them.

There is terror in God's Love.
Unconditional love and forgiveness scares me.
I don't know how to handle that.
Nor how to respond to it.

Birthday treasure hunt

m'gurls went all out for my 49th birthday, unwrapping the morning like a very special present.

Let's just follow along with what they did.

Waiting for me on the dining room table this morning:

Huh! I wonder if I should pay attention to this card? The cipher reads:

17·9·3·5–19·14·1·3·11

What could it mean?

Inside there was a card:

Hm. Cooker. I went right to (eventually, after I tried to look in the oven. "PAPA! DON'T LOOK THERE!" ... *ahem*) the rice cooker.

Ooh! Korean Crispy Rolls! My Favorite! I haven't had these in a year! Present 1. On it was posted a note:

It reads:

Go:

  • Gravity makes you go _____.
  • Nana Upstairs; Nana _____. (Tomie DiPaola)
Look in:

  •  I like _____, I like tea ... 🎶
  • Miami Sound _____. (Gloria Estafan)

EM was shocked – shocked, I say! – that I knew the clue about Miami Sound [something]

Well, – shockingly! – this clue lead me down-stairs to the coffee-machine, and there by it was this:
Yay! My favorite! Present 2. And on it was this note:
I don't know about your Elvish script sight-reading? But mine isn't so good. So my dear EM, who had incidentally been studying the language, for, you know, that just-in-case need, volunteered to translate it for me.

It's amazing. God works in mysterious ways, doesn't He?

The translation ended up to be something like this:

for-clothes-not-me
but-we-end-up-the-same-way

So, off to the laundry room we go (me: wince-wince-wincing on my wimpy feetsies, having just run a 5-miler.) (Oh, poor me!) and, not in the washer! but in the drier was this:
Geddit? Dried cranberries in the dried ... um, drier? GEDDIT?

I haven't had dried cranberries in a while, either. Yay! Present 3. This was turning out to be a cool birthday, particularly with all the fun the kiddies were having.

On the dried cranberries (geddit?) was this note:
"COATRACK" if you read down, not across. sry. So off to the coatrack we go, and there I found Present 4:
Ooh, mmm! Dark chocolate fruity-thingies! On this was the next clue:
The 'yogurt incident' was that EM had preheated the oven ... with my yogurt fermenting in there.

PSA: check your ovens before you preheat them, your yogurt, and all the cookie sheets stored in there! Sheesh! So, the oven had the last gift:
... which I am now wearing! A green, Jack Frost, collared tee and Captain America jammies! YAY!

Happy birthday, everyone! YAY!

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through the belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.
I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth with his baptism,
Through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
Through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension,
Through the strength of his descent for the judgment of Doom.
I arise today
Through the strength of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In prayers of patriarchs,
In predictions of prophets,
In preaching of apostles,
In faith of confessors,
In innocence of holy virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.
I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me:
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.
I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.
Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me abundance of reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.

St. Sharbel Prayer

Prayer for obtaining a special grace

O Lord, infinitely holy and glorified in your saints, you inspired the holy monk and hermit, Sharbel, to live and to die in the way of Jesus Christ and gave him the strength to detach himself from the world in order to make the monastic virtues triumph in his hermitage.

We implore you to bestow upon us the grace to love you and to serve you by following his example.

God Almighty, who manifested the power of Saint Sharbel's intercession by numerous miracles and favors, grant us through his intercession, this grace [state your prayer intention here]. Amen.

Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory Be

St. Valentine's Day for my Girls, pt III: Diane

My dearest love,

I love you with all my heart, from the day I fist saw you ^^) to today, to now and forever.

You are the most beautiful person in the world, because your outward elegance and poise and grace is at one with the radiance of your soul.

God blessed me with you.

I love you.

Your dearest hubs

St. Valentine's Day for my Girls, pt II: Elena Marie

Dear Elena Marie,

My Elvish princess, I still remember how you would parade about the house with your moo-cow, pleased as punch to have the run of the house.

What a fine, you lady, graceful and gentle, wise and kind, you have become. Know that God loves you and watches over you, carrying the weight of having a (very) weird, (very) old Dad.

And let's not forget: chocolate and ramen, ... but not mixed together.

Love, Papa

St. Valentine's Day for my girls, pt I: Isabel

Dearest Isabel,

When you were born, your mother held you in her arms and cried, "My baby, my baby!

Beloved of God, one thing you will always have as long as I have breath in my body is the love of your father.

I love you.

Papa

Fæder ure

This is the Old English version of the "Our Father" that I picked up on twitter from @14KaratGEM. Notice something about it? Old English has letters of the alphabet we no longer have. But the Icelandic alphabet, unchanged for the last 1,000 years, still does. So, I can actually write this prayer out fair. Here it is:

Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum;
Si þin nama gehalgod
tobecume þin rice
gewurþe ðin willa
on oerðan swa swa on heofonum.
urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us todæg
and forgyf us ure gyltas
swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum
and ne gelæd þu us on costnunge

ac alys us of yfele soþlice
